Queríamos evaluar hasta qué punto las características físicas y medioambientales del barrio podía influir en la economía de sus habitantes, tomando como caso práctico la ciudad de Detroit en Estados Unidos.

Last September 20th, I was lucky enough to be invited as speaker to discuss about the “Future of the cities after the pandemic” at the Congreso del Bienestar organized by the SER radio in Córdoba, Spain. With fellow panelists of the stature of Claudio Feijoo, engineer and director for Asia at the Polytechnic University of Madrid; Carmen Sánchez, head of the UN Habitat Spain office; and Jose Ramón Sempere, director of Mercasa.

The four of us, with different backgrounds and experiences, agreed on how we see the future of the cities: a healthier, more participatory environment that strengthens the local economy. The Covid-19 has not diminished our desire to continue improving, it has taught us that the next time they will not catch us so vulnerable, the resilient city is the strategy.
